Sustainability Fair: Livingston, MT

The Yurt
Last weekend we attended the Sustainability Fair in gorgeous Livingston, MT. We had initially wanted to display our RV, but the remodeling came down to the wire and we decided to be spectators instead. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed talking to all the interesting people there.

Some highlights:

  • We met a delightful couple who remodeled their Airstream travel trailer to be completely off the grid (even a composting toilet…yay!) …pulled by their biodiesel-fueled truck.
  • We chatted with Paul House of Bozeman Biofuels…who has been spreading the biofuel love in the Gallatin Valley for nearly 3 years now.
  • We laughed at the adorable alpacas.
  • We stood in the yurt. Yurt = Love.
  • We saw Kermit the Pod.
  • I drooled over a really cool Dutch bicycle.
  • I played a little game called “Count the Chacos“. It seems to be the national shoe of the Bozeman area. Don’t get me wrong…you won’t catch me without my trusty Chacos. Best shoes ever. It’s just a fun game.

  4. What color flips do you have? I’ll have to try Chacos out – they look so comfortable! Were you able to bring all of your clothes with you in the RV or did you have to downsize your wardrobe even more? Would love to hear what you brought with you. What about kitchen stuff, too? Your RV is adorable and your committments to God and the world He created for us really shine through and are so inspiring! Thanks!

  5. Hi Kay…I have the green and pink flips from 2 years ago. I don’t think they carry that color anymore. I LOVE my Chaco flips!

I will be writing about the downsizing process in future posts…we consistently downsize our wardrobe, so it wasn’t too traumatic :)

  8. Hello! I found you a few months ago through your dreadlock journey on flickr I think. I really dig what you’re doing. I live in Amsterdam – wish you could bring your RV tour over here :) Just wanted to say that those bakfietsen are so common over here – biking is a huge perk to our Dutch lifestyle :)

  10. Hi – I was directed here via Crunchy Chicken…..the sustainable living fair sounds neat – I’m really interested in the airstreamers you ran into – do they have a blog?? if so could you send the link to me?

My Husband, 2 kids and I have 2 airstreams and LOVE them – we would like to use the smaller one on a cross country trip – but it has such a small blackwater tank – I’m interested in the composting toilet idea….
Thanks!! Neat blog enjoying reading it.
